Taquari Valley

Economy in the Taquari Valley is diversified and dynamic. The survey “Towards 2015”, designed by the state Coordination and Planning Office (2006) to guide measures for promoting growth and reducing regional inequalities, has classified the Taquari Valley as one of the four most dynamic regions in the state (among 24). This is the result of a greater economic development, as well as potentialities and social indexes above state average.

As to regional exports, in 2006 they added up to 670 million dollars, accounting for 5.7% of the total in the State of Rio Grande do Sul.

Furthermore, the Taquari Valley is gradually becoming an important food center (especially for the candy industry), and also accounting for 30% of poultry production in the state. This activity gives employment to approximately 13,000 people. Another important activity is the footwear industry, that in 2005 kept 18,000 employees in the valley.
