O esporte para crianças e adolescentes, não somente na educação física escolar, mas também em horários distintos ao da escola, é muito importante para esse público, pois está ligada com saúde em geral. Este artigo teve como objetivo compreender os significados da atividade física para as crianças do Centro Social Raio de Luz da cidade de Venâncio Aires/RS. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas sendo sete pré-adolescentes do sexo masculino entre dez e treze anos. O estudo é de cunho qualitativo e utilizou como método de análise a triangulação de dados e após com as respostas obtidas foram construídas categoria. Considerando os objetivos da pesquisa, pode-se verificar que a atividade física para as crianças do Centro Social é benéfica para saúde e também para as demais áreas do conhecimento, em relação à organização, à concentração e à interação entre os alunos.
The sport for children and adolescents, not only in school physical education, but also at times other than school, is very important for this public, because it is linked to health in general. The study is qualitative and used as a method of analysis the triangulation of data and after the answers obtained were constructed category. Considering the research objectives, it can be verified that the physical activity for the children of the Social Center is beneficial for health and also for the other areas of knowledge, regarding the organization, concentration and interaction among the students.
