O futebol é um jogo complexo em suas interações individuais e coletivas. A análise de desempenho auxilia na compreensão das estatísticas de jogo e na avaliação da performance dos atletas, que por vezes podem passar despercebidas pelo grande público, por somente identificar o autor do gol ou analisar o resultado final. Recentemente os volantes vêm se destacando pela atuação e capacidade ofensiva. São escassos os estudos que procuram entender a importância do volante na organização ofensiva de uma equipe. O objetivo do estudo foi identificar e mensurar a participação dos volantes nas finalizações da equipe campeã da Copa Libertadores de 2017. A coleta de dados foi realizada através da observação de vídeos dos 14 jogos completos que a equipe participou na competição. Cinco critérios foram estabelecidos para poder incluir a participação dos volantes nas finalizações da equipe: finalizações, assistências diretas; desarmes, faltas sofridas e assistências indiretas. Um total de 168 finalizações foram identificadas, e em 65 delas os volantes contribuíram nas ações estabelecidas, revelando uma atuação participativa nas conclusões da equipe. Entretanto não foi identificada diferença significativa na participação ofensiva quando os volantes atuaram como mandantes ou visitantes, assim como, quando comparadas as finalizações da fase classificatória com a eliminatória. Houve diferença significativa entre a participação dos volantes nas ações ofensivas da equipe quando comparados jogos em que a equipe venceu e perdeu, sendo superior na derrota. Conclui-se que os volantes desempenharam um papel importante na organização ofensiva do jogo de futebol e nas finalizações da equipe campeã da Copa Libertadores de 2017.
Football is a complex game in its individual and collective interactions. Performance analysis helps in understanding game statistics and in assessing athletes' performance, which can sometimes go unnoticed by the general public by simply identifying the goal scorer or analyzing the end result. Recently, the defensive midfielder have been outstanding for their performance and offensive capabilities. There are few studies that try to understand the importance of the midfielder center in the offensive organization of a team. The objective of the study was to identify and measure the participation of the defensive midfielder in the finals of the 2017 Copa Libertadores champion team. Data collection was performed by watching videos of the 14 complete games that the team participated in the competition. Five criteria were established to include the participation of the defensive midfielder in the team finishes: finishing, direct assists; disarms, absences suffered and indirect assistance. A total of 168 submissions were identified, and in 65 of them the players had participations, revealing a participatory role in the team's conclusions. However, no significant difference in offensive participation was identified when the defensive midfielder acted as principals or visitors, as well as when comparing the finals of the qualifying phase with the knockout phase. There was a significant difference between the participation of the defensive midfielders in the team's offensive actions when comparing games in which the team won and lost, it being superior in defeat. It is concluded that the defensive midfielder played an important role in the offensive organization of the soccer game and in the finishing of the 2017 Copa Libertadores champion team.
