Abstract
Over the years changes in society have led to an increase in the number of sedentary people. The decrease in physical practice influences the lifestyle of the population and the health of the population. In order to reverse this situation, researchers have been seeking to establish a relationship between the environment and the levels of physical activity, in order to understand the factors positively and negatively related to the practice of physical activity when it comes to the environment in which we operate. The objective of the study was to verify the relationship between the perception of the environment and the levels of physical activity in adults living in the city of Lajeado-RS. Two research instruments were applied: the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), short version, which measured the practice of physical activity, and the Neighborhood Environmental Walkability Scale (NEWS), adapted version, which evaluated the perception of the environment. The result found in the study showed that 60.6% of the sample were active and 39.4% were sedentary. By relating the perception of the environment in relation to the level of physical activity, the results showed that people who are physically active have a better perception of social support (p> 0.046) and general security (p>0.035). It is concluded that the variables social support and general safety have a positive association between the perception of the environment and the practice of physical activity, and when conducting studies relating the perception of the environment and PA in large urban centers and small municipalities, We must pay attention to the peculiarities of each region.
