Resumo
O câncer de mama é o segundo câncer com maior incidência entre as mulheres. Além do diagnóstico, as pacientes precisam enfrentar uma série de mudanças físicas, mentais e sociais que acabam afetando a autoestima e a autoaceitação. O objetivo geral da presente pesquisa é analisar como o design gráfico pode colaborar com a autoestima de mulheres que estão em tratamento de câncer de mama. O artigo tem como base a pesquisa de natureza aplicada, pois seu objetivo é gerar conhecimentos para posterior aplicação prática. O método é dialético e a pesquisa é exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa. Para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, os procedimentos técnicos utilizados foram: pesquisa bibliográfica e pesquisa documental, com o intuito de coletar informações sobre o câncer de mama, tratamento, efeitos colaterais e o seu impacto na imagem da mulher, a simbologia da mama na história da humanidade, o papel da autoestima e alternativas já existentes em que o design gráfico auxilia na temática do câncer de mama e do autocuidado. Além disso, foi realizada uma entrevista em profundidade, que identificou e analisou as experiências de mulheres que passaram pelo diagnóstico. Como considerações finais, apresenta-se uma discussão baseada na pesquisa e na análise.
Breast cancer is the second most prevalent cancer among women. In addition to the diagnosis, patients need to face a series of physical, mental and social changes that end up affecting self-esteem and self-acceptance. The general objective of this research is to analyze how graphic design can collaborate with the self-esteem of women who are undergoing breast cancer treatment. The article is based on research of applied nature, as its objective is to generate knowledge for later practical application. The method is dialectical and the research is exploratory, with a qualitative approach. For the development of the research, the technical procedures used were: bibliographic and documentary research in order to collect information about breast cancer, treatment, side effects and its impact on the image of women, the symbology of the breast in human history, the role of self-esteem and alternatives already existing in which graphic design assists in the breast cancer and self-care themes. In addition, an in-depth interview was conducted, which identified and analyzed the experiences of women who underwent the diagnosis. As final considerations, a discussion based on the research and analysis is presented.
