Abstract
Dental caries is currently one of the major public health problems worldwide, especially in early childhood. Pit and fissure sealants are an effective strategy for the prevention and inactivation of carious lesions, and can be classified as either glass ionomer or resin-based materials. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis on pit and fissure sealants published in five pediatric dentistry journals: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry, European Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, Pesquisa Brasileira de Odontopediatria e Clínica Integrada and Pediatric Dentistry, from 2015 to 2024. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 93 articles indexed in the PubMed database were selected. These articles were organized in Excel spreadsheets and analyzed using the VOSviewer software for the bibliometric network construction. The results revealed existing gaps in the literature, especially the need for further randomized clinical trials focused on primary molars. Additionally, there is a notable shortage of studies conducted in Africa and Oceania, highlighting the demand for future research on pit and fissure sealants in these regions.
