Therefore, the aim of this study was to listen to children who experienced the floods, exploring their experiences, perceptions, and sufferings. Eight children, aged 5 to 11 years, participated in the study. Four focus groups were conducted within the shelter where the children and their families were residing for data collection. The themes addressed were nostalgia and experiences in the shelter. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the children experienced an intensification of feelings of insecurity, as well as the emergence of significant symptoms such as emotional blunting and disruptive behaviors. Similarly, the loss of routine and the sense of chronological time caused emotional disorganization. In conclusion, the study gave voice to the suffering faced by children in the post-disaster period and contributed to understanding the possible effects on children's mental health in the context of natural disasters, as well as the importance of conducting psychosocial interventions with this group.
