Abstract
O câncer é definido como um conjunto de mais de 200 doenças que se caracterizam pelo crescimento celular desordenado, capacidade de invadir tecidos e sua origem baseada em condições multifatoriais. Os lentos avanços tecnológicos no que diz respeito ao tratamento e cura dessa patologia, faz com que familiares e pacientes oncológicos busquem apoio em terapias que ultrapassam as barreiras científicas, as chamadas Terapias Alternativas Complementares. Desta forma, esse estudo objetivou identificar a prevalência do uso de Terapias Alternativas Complementares entre os 22 pacientes oncológicos incluídos na pesquisa, utilizando como ferramenta um questionário construído especialmente para este estudo. Pode-se observar que grande parte dos entrevistados fizeram uso de Terapias Alternativas Complementares, as mulheres foram as que mais utilizaram e a Fitoterapia foi a Terapia Alternativa Complementar mais utilizada. Poucas das plantas que surgiram no decorrer da pesquisa foram realmente classificadas como chás e muitas não são reconhecidas pela Anvisa. Identificou-se a relação do uso de fitoterápicos com características especificas do município onde foi realizado o estudo. Também se notou a falta de conhecimentos dos usuários sobre as plantas utilizadas e a falta de vínculo entre profissionais da saúde e pacientes.
Cancer is defined as a set of more than 200 diseases characterized by disordered cell growth, ability to invade tissues and their origin based on multifactorial conditions. The slow technological advances regarding the treatment and cure of this pathology, causes family members and cancer patients to seek support in therapies that surpass the scientific barriers, called Complementary Alternative Therapies. Thus, this study aimed to identify the prevalence of Complementary Alternative Therapies among 22 oncology patients included in the study, using as a tool a questionnaire specially constructed for this study. It can be observed that a great part of the interviewees made use of Complementary Alternative Therapies, the women were the ones that used the most and the herbal medicine was the Complementary Alternative Therapy most used. Few of the plants that emerged during the research were actually classified as teas and many are not recognized by Anvisa. It was identified the relation of the use of phytotherapics with specific characteristics of the municipality where the study was carried out. It was also noted the lack of knowledge of the users about the plants used and the lack of link between health professionals and patients.
