Introduction: Obesity is a condition in which excessive accumulation of body fat causes negative impacts on health. It is a complex condition with multiple causes and requires a comprehensive approach to prevention and treatment. This study aims to analyze the main difficulties encountered by nurses when treating obese patients. Methodology: Refers to a descriptive research with a qualitative approach, which was applied in a hospital unit in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. Ten nurses were interviewed, through guiding questions about the specific objective of the study, being interviews recorded, transcribed and analyzed. After data collection, the responses were analyzed according to Bardin's Content Analysis (2016), three thematic categories being constructed: “Main difficulties encountered by nurses in the treatment of obesity”, “Nutritional and emotional perspective”Results: The results reveal that the average age of participants ranges from 25 to 50 years. The main difficulties in treating obese patients, from the perspective of nurses, was the lack of consistent adherence by patients to treatment plans and lifestyle changes, especially in relation to diet and recommended physical exercise. Furthermore, there is still a lack of information, as some nurses face difficulties in openly addressing weight-related issues with patients and offering practical guidance to improve quality of life. Conclusion: This study made it possible to highlight the importance of nursing in the treatment of obese patients and in the care of these individuals, listing the main difficulties encountered by nurses in the hospital environment when dealing with obese patients to develop appropriate care strategies. Furthermore, it was possible to analyze challenges related to mobility, provide personalized care, use appropriate equipment and promote effective communication, aiming to guarantee the safety and well-being of both patients and nursing professionals.
