Introduction: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in childhood and adolescence. Several genetic, biological, and environmental factors act on the manifestation and symptoms of ADHD, which is responsible for a series of damages, such as family stress, higher costs, school difficulties and low self-esteem, which increases by 80% the risks for anxious symptoms among the population. Objective: The aim of this research was to investigate the correlation between the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and anxiety in childhood. Method: To assess anxiety symptoms, the MASC Scale (Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for children and adolescents) was applied to children and to assess ADHD symptoms, SNAP IV was applied to parents or guardians. The sample consisted of 15 children aged between 7 and 12 years, with previous diagnosis of ADHD, confirmed by medical report and/or neuropsychological evaluation. The analysis of the data obtained was performed through SSPS 21.0 for Windows, being considered in all tests the statistical significance of 0.05. Results: No statistically significant correlation was found between the symptoms of inattention/hyperactivity and anxiety. However, it is noteworthy that 11 children (73.33%) of the sample fulfilled general anxiety indexes, according to the MASC. Conclusion: No statistically significant correlations were found between ADHD symptoms and anxiety; However, high levels of anxiety can be observed in the participating children, which makes relevant studies that seek to understand how these symptoms are related.
