| dc.description.abstract | Recentemente o conflito entre Israel e Palestina voltou a ganhar foco internacional através de uma série de acontecimentos que dividem opiniões. O grupo político Hamas realizou uma ofensiva violenta contra Israel, que respondeu também fazendo uso da força e dando início a uma guerra no local. Esses acontecimentos acabaram desencadeando conflitos paralelos envolvendo outros atores, como os grupos apoiadores do Hamas, e os Estados Unidos, principal aliado de Israel. Dito isso, a presente pesquisa busca analisar a participação dos Estados Unidos dentro desses conflitos, como o Estado norte-americano se beneficia nesses casos, e de que forma esses acontecimentos refletem as características do Realismo Ofensivo do escritor e teórico John Mearsheimer a partir do seu livro The Tragedy of Great Power Politics (2001). Pode-se ressaltar que a teoria se expressa de diversas formas dentro desse contexto, os Estados Unidos sendo uma hegemonia regional e tendo interesses específicos no Oriente Médio, usa conflitos como esse para influenciar a balança de poder regional, restringindo o domínio de Estados rivais (como o Irã), protegendo seus aliados e fazendo uso da força se achar necessário. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Recently, the conflict between Israel and Palestine has once again gained international focus through a series of events that divide opinions. The political group Hamas carried out a violent offensive against Israel, which also responded by using force and starting a war. These events ended up triggering parallel conflicts involving other actors, such as groups supporting Hamas, and the United States, Israel's main ally. That said, this research seeks to analyze the participation of the United States within these conflicts, how the North American State benefits in these cases, and how these events reflect the characteristics of Offensive Realism by writer and theorist John Mearsheimer based on his book The Tragedy of Great Power Politics (2001). It can be highlighted that the theory is expressed in different ways within this context, the United States being a regional hegemon and having specific interests in the Middle East, uses conflicts like this to influence the regional balance of power, restricting the dominance of rival states (like Iran), protecting its allies and using force if it deems it necessary. | |
