This research aims to characterize the architecture of the municipality of Teutônia, highlighting the cultural and historic aspects linked to the Germanic immigration of the region. From the bibliographic research and inventory of the half-timbered residences still remaining in the city, the elements that refer to the immigrant identity are studied. Teutônia’s past of colonization is currently remembered in distinct symbols, and this research tries to map the process of the construction of that memory. In this sense, the architecture is recognized as a vestige of the first settlers, mostly westfalians, who brought the habit of building half-timbered houses adapted to the local conditions. This study revealed, through the characterization of the local architecture, a feeling of belonging to that Germanic culture brought by the settlers. Starting from 1981, with Teutônia’s emancipation, this past of immigration characterizes the local identity. The city’s main symbols refer to the immigrant’s memories, and the construction of the Administrative Center would inaugurate a series of stylized half-timbered buildings. The construction of a local cultural heritage, which refers to the immigrant process, and searches for a collective memory of the elements of cultural identification, is analyzed. This research aims to characterize the architecture of the municipality of Teutônia, highlighting the cultural and historic aspects linked to the Germanic immigration of the region.
