Abstract
As fendas orofaciais são defeitos congênitos de etiologia sindrômica, associadas com outras anomalias craniofaciais ou isoladas e compreendem diferentes tipos possíveis de defeito no palato, no lábio, no nariz e em outras estruturas da face. Por sua maior prevalência, destaca-se a fissura labial e a fenda palatina. Também estão encontradas entre os cinco problemas de saúde pública relacionados com a Odontologia no mundo, juntamente com a doença periodontal, cárie, câncer de boca e má oclusão. O objetivo desta monografia foi a elucidação da etiologia e principais aspectos do desenvolvimento à reabilitação de pacientes portadores destas anomalias. Propõe-se assim, um apanhado geral das possíveis causas dessas anomalias, bem como os tratamentos disponíveis e o papel de diversos profissionais na reabilitação destes pacientes. Os resultados demonstram que durante a fase de reabilitação destes pacientes, uma equipe multidisciplinar deve trabalhar em harmonia durante todo o processo, sendo ele longo e compreendendo várias etapas terapêuticas. As ações dos profissionais voltam-se aos cuidados básicos importantes ao bem-estar físico e psíquico dos pacientes e seus familiares, bem como as suas necessidades odontológicas.
Oral clefts can be syndromic, associated with other craniofacial abnormalities or isolated, and embrace many kinds of lip and palate malformations, or in other facial structures. Major prevalence are clefts in the lip and palate. They are also found as one of the five challenges of public health related to dentistry in the world, herewith gum disease, caries, oral cancer and malocclusion. The goals of the present monography were to elucidate the etiology and principal aspects of embryological development, until the rehabilitation of patients who have these abnormalities. One overview of the possible causes of these abnormalities, the treatments available and how the multidisciplinary care team works in the rehabilitation of these patients. The results show that during the rehabilitation phase of these patients, multidisciplinary teams have to work in conjunction and harmony along all the processes, wich is long and embrace the many therapeutic phases. The actions from the professionals are directed to physical and psychological well-being of the patients and their families, as well their dental needs.
